July 30th – More guests not paying rent….

Today’s picture is of a very common bird, but few people get to see them as youngsters. We have a pair of wood pigeon chicks (squabs) in the hedge. I’m sure their parents think they are lovely, but I have seen prettier chicks.

Apparently, the main reason why squabs are rarely seen is because of how long they stay in the nest—for about a month to six weeks, “until they are effectively an adult size”
